Shift Brewer

About the Shift Brewer role

Given our rapid growth, we are hiring a shift brewer to assist and work as a team with our Lead Brewer. This position is a key role responsible for the both the day-to-day brewing of PHBC beers and the continual upkeep of the brewing equipment. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Operate and maintain both our 15bbl main brewhouse and 3.5 bbl pilot brewhouse
  • Work as a team with Lead Brewer to meet production schedule
  • Take daily tank readings to monitor fermentation
  • Follow SOPs to clean tanks and transfer beer between those tanks
  • Harvest and pitch yeast following our sanitary SOPs
  • Check in grain shipments as they arrive
  • Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues as they arise
  • Identify and implement improvements to maximize operational efficiency

Shift Brewer qualifications

At a minimum, the Shift Brewer must have the following:

  • 1+ years of experience brewing in a craft brewery
  • Ability to work as a great teammate
  • Ability to mechanically maintain and adjust brewing equipment to improve its operation
  • Good interpersonal skills and communication skills
  • Ability to operate a forklift and pallet jack
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods, stoop, crawl, twist, turn, lift, kneel, climb ladders and stairs
  • Ability to regularly lift/carry heavy supplies, like 55 lbs bags of grain and kegs of beer
  • Ability to work in a brewery environment which may be loud, slick, humid, and hot
  • Ability to comply with safe chemical handling procedures, including personal protection equipment such as gloves and goggles 

Packaging and Cellar Lead

About the Packaging and Cellar Lead role

Given our rapid growth, we are hiring a packaging and cellar lead. This position is a key role responsible for both the day-to-day packaging of PHBC beers and the continual upkeep of the packaging equipment. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Operate and maintain our canning line, including, set up, maintenance, changeovers
  • Take daily tank readings including monitoring fermentation and carbonation
  • Follow SOPs to clean tanks and transfer beer between those tanks
  • Act as first point of contact for all equipment slow-downs (e.g. can-jams, low-fills)
  • Can and keg beer according to the daily packaging schedule
  • Lead all troubleshooting and resolving of packaging issues
  • Coordinate with team members to achieve packaging production requirements
  • Contribute to and rely on packaging performance metrics
  • Identify and implement improvements to maximize package quality and operations efficiency
  • Pick and prepare packaging raw materials including folding case trays and washing kegs
  • Pick, document, and load finished beer to our distribution partners
  • Support the implementation, operation, and maintenance of our next generation packaging equipment

Packaging and Cellar Lead qualifications

At a minimum, the Packaging Technician must have the following:

  • 1+ years of experience operating beer packaging equipment 
  • Experience leading other employees
  • Ability to work as a great teammate
  • Ability to mechanically maintain and adjust packaging equipment to improve its operation
  • Experience with packaging equipment changeovers and mechanical adjustments
  • Good interpersonal skills and communication skills
  • Ability to operate a forklift and pallet jack
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods, stoop, crawl, twist, turn, lift, kneel, climb ladders and stairs
  • Ability to regularly lift/carry heavy supplies, like 55 lbs bags of grain and kegs of beer
  • Ability to work in a brewery environment which may be loud, slick, humid, and hot
