Arboreal Contact: A Story of hope, Disc Golf and The Debary Beer Festival
It started out like any other stormy Saturday...
4 out of our 5 person team were battling back from a nasty case of being novice. Luckily our 5th, and now official PHBC head Disc Golf coach Andrew, showed up not only with his disc bag... but it was filled with tricks, discy tricks!
"If you can dodge a yeast plug, you can throw a disc" noted Andrew. It wasn't always clear what he meant, but his tutelage payed big dividends, resulting in some awesome (albeit still unimpressive) throws!
"I suck at Disc Golf, but I'm good at beer" cries Andy! It was sort of like his mantra for the day.
When all the discs settled and the sound of chains subsided it was announced that we were the winners! Winners of course in the sense that we didn't come in last place...Third to last place! "Pretty sure I win 1st prize for best arboreal contact" Paula exclaimed!
She of course was correct...Paula was in fact awarded Best Arboreal Contact (award to be pictured once it has been delivered)
Team Arboreal Contact was awarded the Best Most Fun Having Team Ever Award and also the Best Trick Shot While Drinking a Can of Beach Hippie Award, as pictured below...
The Weakest member of Team Arboreal Contact, Robbie, cited "I didn't have a clear understanding of how the game is supposed to work... so the bowler flings the round thing over the pitch and into the wicket? Where does the Batsman stand?" (Said of course with a thick and poorly imitated British accent) This all was to cover for the mild embarrassment of not knowing how to braid his own hair.
Not pictured is Team Arboreal Contact's Photographer/ Best player Justin who famously said "I would have had some great drives if there weren't so many trees and Beach Hippie wasn't 7.1%"
In all seriousness, the Debary - River City Beer Festival and Disc Golf Tournament benefiting the St. Johns Riverkeeper was a blast! Great Beer, amazing people and an all around great 1st year! We are really looking forward to next year... oh and as to not disappoint, we indeed got weird!
